Fresh water inundation tolerant trees

Many of the riverbank species have been used successfully for afforesting foreshores subject to inundation. So riverbank species has been listed with the hope that with further trials, more species could be found useful for the purpose. The ability of species which essentially grow in such habitats in the wet forest ares, to grow in dry conditions has to be investigated.

Saplings used for foreshore afforestation should be sufficiently tall so that they are not completely submerged in standing water. Planting on raised mounds would also be helpful. If cuttings are used, they should be large sized as in for example, Salix.

  1. A treasure trove of the river bank Ecosystem, a good number of riverine tree species compilation is listed here. 👍🙏👏.

Hope we have their common Kannada name equivalent.

I think river bank tree species in Malnad will be different from non-malnad regions.

All Riverine tree species should be treated equally important as trees in sacred groves - peepal banyan etc.
